It's that time of year again - crisp, tender, Australian asparagus is back in season, and your spring meals just got a whole lot brighter!
Asparagus is one of those vegetables we can buy all year round, but from late winter through to early spring, we're treated to the very best - fresh, Australian-grown asparagus. There's simply no comparison when it comes to taste and freshness.
The season has just started, so now's the time to enjoy it at its sweetest and most tender. Over the next couple of months, the flavour and quality will be at their peak - and with every bunch you buy, you're also supporting Aussie growers.
Health Benefits
- Low in calories, a great source of fibre.
- Rich in folate and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system and gut.
- Natural diuretic - helps you feel light and refreshed as the weather warms up.
How to Choose and Store
- Look for firm, straight spears with tightly closed tips.
- Avoid limp stalks or those with a strong smell.
- Store in the fridge standing upright in a glass with a little water, or wrap the ends in a damp paper towel to keep them fresh.
Quick Cooking Ideas
- Steam or blanch and serve with a squeeze of lemon.
- Sauté with garlic and olive oil for a speedy side dish.
- Toss on the BBQ or under the grill for a smoky finish.
- Add to pasta, risotto, omelettes, or a spring salad with parmesan.
- Shave raw asparagus into ribbons for a crisp, vibrant salad.
This week, pop a bunch (or two!) into your basket and enjoy the unbeatable flavour of Australian asparagus while it's at its seasonal best.
