Seize the season: Why feijoa is the fruit to savour now

Feijoa, also known as pineapple guava, is a fruit native to South America. It is named after Joao da Silva Feijo, a Portuguese botanist who discovered the plant in Brazil in the 19th century.

Feijoa fruit is green and egg-shaped, with a slightly rough, thin skin. The flesh inside is white, with a texture that is often described as a cross between a pineapple and a pear. It has a sweet, tangy flavor with notes of guava, pineapple, and strawberry.

Feijoa is often eaten raw, scooped out of its skin with a spoon. It can also be used in jams, jellies, and chutneys, or in desserts like pies and crumbles.
