Cleavers Organic Meat

By: The Food Coach

Cleavers Organic Meats are certified organic and can guarantee the authenticity of their product from paddock to plate.

Cleavers, together with not for profit organic industry association Australian Organic, wants to remind consumers to only purchase organic products that carry the Australian Certified Organic logo recognised by its green bud design. A reminder prompted by a recent Choice survey disputing the organic claim made by an independent butcher who was not certified organic.

'Our organisation has extremely high expectations for organic products, underpinned by annual and unannounced audits and product testing' comments Chair of Australian Organic, Dr Andrew Monk.

'Being a government accredited certifier; products wearing the Bud logo are also protected under consumer law'.

A product cannot be labeled certified organic just because it is made from organic ingredients. All meat and sausage products sold within Australia must be 100% free of preservatives including sulphur dioxide - a product not permitted as an additive in food under organic standards.

'Any companies that wrongly label a product as certified face significant penalties supported by actions from the ACCC'.

The Arcadian Organic and Natural Meat Company is the largest distributor of certified organic sausages on the East Coast of Australia and produces the Cleavers brand which is sold in Coles as well as smaller independent butchers and retail outlets. Cleavers has proudly been accredited and consistently maintains the Australian Certified Organic logo.

'We have a certificate of analysis for each consignment of certified organic sausage meals delivered to our plant. This ensures that the meals we use from our supplier are made to specifications and meet the organic standard', the Company's joint CEO Alister Ferguson says.

'At Cleavers we pride ourselves on our personal knowledge and relationship with all or our famers and suppliers. We insist all our products meet incredibly high standards and are fully certified organic'.

'Certification starts with the raw ingredients and follows a process through manufacturing to retail. If the end product satisfies organic standards, only then can it be called certified organic.'

Organic approved meat and sausages must go through rigorous testing, maintain strict standards and be 100% preservative free to qualify as organic.

'Being able to include the Australian Certified Organic logo on our products lets our customers know and trust that Cleavers organic sausages are the ethical and healthier choice', comments Mr. Ferguson.

'Our organic logo certification number is listed on all of our retail packs which is your guarantee of integrity'.
