Native plums may help preserve pet food
By: Lisa Costa Bir, Naturopath
Plums are still in season and whilst we humans love them, our four legged friends may also find them useful. Two native Australian plums (the kakadu & Queensland Davidson plums) have been found to contain specific types of anti-microbial substances that when combined with organic acids act as natural preservatives to help prolong the life of processed kangaroo meat used in pet food. This means a reduction in the use of preservatives such as sulphides, which can cause vitamin B1 deficiencies in cats and dogs- sounds pretty good to me!
